It was a charming individual place. It was very easy to reach from the airport ( ~ 15 minutes by taxi) . It was quiet, welcoming . Pleasantly air-conditioned on a veryhot day (40 degrees). There were many small snack bars/cafes nearby where we had a simple snack. There was no time for touring but I am told it is near the souk, the museum and other attractions.
The central location to the 'old' part of Dubai was extermely convenient for walking along the creek, exploring the museum, restored arabic houses, etc.
The ac was not functioning in the majlis -so there was nowhere, other than our room, to escape the humidity (it was around 48 degrees and very humid), there was no buffet breakfast (we had to pre select the night before because it was 'quiet') and no tea/coffee in the room. At atotal of 660aed it is at the top end of cost for such a lack of facilities.
The staff were very nice and helpful -- provided lots of useful info. e.g. transport, opeing hours of tourists spots, place for currency exchanges, etc. Specially like the tranquillity of the place. I arrived late at mid-night and the staff was kind enough to pick me up form outside. Very close to post office(opposite side of road), the Dubai Museum(a few minutes walk) and water sports station (another 5 minutes walk further). Day walk & night walk in this heritage area gave me diff. experiences of the place. I was given to know I could use the facilities of Arabic courtyard hotel nearby (a few min. walk again) but I just didnt' manage to (I'll definitely try next time). I think the price can be a bit more reasonable and there's room for improvement on the breakfast provided.
Very convenient location, and beautifully quiet.
Very cramped breakfast serving area, with room for only one person to serve themselves at a time.
Location in the restored old city of Dubai, small boutique hotel, charming furniture and building, comfortanble, excellent breakfast in charming courtyard, helpful and courteous staff,, useful relationship with nearlby larger hotel (E.G. valet parking), adjacent to Museum and Souk and Dubai Creek.
Poor directions and map on web sites. Difficult to work out how to arrive by car. No street signs indicating where hotel is, and no useful instructions for arrival procedure. (We worked it out, but it could have been much more stressful.) (The hotel is effectively hidden - this is ok once you are there, but finding it if you have never been there before is tricky.)
The price, about 800 dirhams including taxes, is excessive.
The courtyard, the breakfast. The peacefulness (when the drills weren't going outside!). The easy access to Dubai Creek/boats/the souks/abras. Liked the Majlis and second courtyard. Liked the plants in the courtyards. Liked the fact that ogh was nothing like a hotel with all the noise and fripperies of other tourists/guests.
That our room was not cleaned for 4 days, despite requests. The noise from the drills outside (probably beyond your control?). Would like to see all the rooms shown on the website so that we can choose a different one next time. (We did like the room we had, but saw what might suit us better, but unable to get access).
Staff was wonderful lovely breakfast in the morning great location to visit the old markets and musuem
Would be nice if they had the availability of a roll away bed....our room could have fit one nicely. As a result, we had to book a second room just for one person
The Orient Guest House was well positioned (close to the old part of the city) and not far from some of the souks (markets). It was nice to stay in more traditional style of accommodation rather than your everyday hotel. All the staff were pleasant and helpful, would return at a cooler time of year if there ever is one!!!!!
Not easy to find if the taxi doesn't drop you opposite the Al Mussala Post Office as we arrived at midnight.
The atmosphere in the Guest House was tranquil and it is a hidden gem. We spend our honeymoon there and had sufficient privacy and the staff was excellent, friendly and very helpful around the clock.
It would be nice if the room would have a small fridge to keep drinks and food chilled. The rooms have enough space to accommodate it and it would just add additional comfort to a lovely setting.
Centrally located and still very calm palce - nice contrast to the rush of Dubai. Very friendly staff. Fast and free Wifi.Nice roof.Clean room. No bed bugs (a real plus in Dubai:-) Kind of romantic place... Would definitely come back
In July having breakfast in the courtyard is a bit hot (though the place is beautiful).
The hotel is located in a very nice position in the old dubai, into an old medina. Very romantic location, but the rooms need a refreshing and the wireless doesn't work very well. The breakfast very good but poor. For this reason my opinion is that the price of the room is exaggerate, mostly because you have to add at the price of the room +20% for taxes. I paid for a night 150€ and to me is too much.
The price very exaggerate for the level of the hotel. The wireless during my stay didn't work at all.
The hotel is very atmospheric. Although the busy Meenabazar area is nearby, the hotel and its immediate surroundings (add to that The Basta Art Cafe) are deliciously Arabic and period. The mud brick walls and the old style of the hotel's interior just makes the whole experience perfect as a getaway.
I have to add here that the guesthouse partners with the spa in the Arabian Courtyard Hotel across the street, Zaitoon. This spa is an absolute rip-off and a complete scam. Do not go there, and do not avail their services. They are overpriced, and also pretentious. The service- providers are not trained and the products are horrible.
Position good if you want to see Old Dubai rather than the beach. It does have character, but this could be greatly improved by careful updating of facilities and able staff.
Staff sweet but incompetent. My bathroom was not cleaned for the 3 nights I stayed there and on one night the room was not cleaned and the bed left unmade. The bathrooms are in desperate need of an update. At these prices dated tiles and sanitaryware and shower curtains will not do..It took an age to check in. Rooms leading onto the courtyard noisy at night as the bedroom wall has a gap at the top which means you can hear the conversations of the night staff, the arrivals of new guests, the office phone ringing and the cleaning and setting up for breakfast etc etc
Very friendly staff. Simple guest house with Arabic flare. Excellent for travellers looking for indigenous architecture and historical ambiance. Not a luxury hotel. Located in the middle of the real older Dubai, definitely an escape from the modernity and glitz.
Amenities (shower head, faucets, door handles etc.) are deftinitely not luxury items. I am satisfied with them, wish they were better. No cooling water (you would like some cold water during the summer heat).
